School education
The EU Erasmus+ programme covers the areas of education, training, youth and sport and runs from 2014-2020.
In the field of school education (i.e. general education), Erasmus+ supports cross-border partnerships between kindergartens, schools and other school-related institutions. In addition, the programme funds periods of teaching and learning in other European countries for kindergarten and school staff as well as students. These placements abroad for individual staff/students must always bring added value to their home institution.
- Erasmus+ for school students: Erasmus+ funds placements abroad for school students (in German only) solely within strategic partnerships (in German only) between schools.
- Erasmus+ for teachers, school senior managers and other school staff: The programme supports teaching placements, training and study visits (in German only) abroad within Europe.
- Erasmus+ for kindergartens, schools and other school-related institutions: Erasmus+ supports cross-border cooperation between schools, kindergartens, public authorities and other school-related organisations. The programme distinguishes between two different options:
- Strategic partnerships (in German only): Cross-border cooperation projects between schools, kindergartens and other institutions relevant to school and pre-school education.
- eTwinning (in German only): This online platform enables European schools and kindergartens to conduct cross-border projects via the internet. Furthermore, eTwinning promotes national and international teacher networking at European seminars and conferences.
The Austrian exchange service (OeAD-GmbH) is the national agency with responsibility for implementing and administering the education component of Erasmus+. The National Agency for Erasmus+ Education within OeAD-GmbH supports Erasmus+ in Austria and offers advice and information to applicants.

In accordance with Circular No. 4/2019 (in German only), applications for grants can be made here between 1 and 30 April by online form.
